The Dot

The DOT  by Peter H. Reynolds is a really fun book.  It is a thoughtful book about a little girl who is inspired by a teacher to be an artist.  The book carries a message that can encourage creativity and boost confidence in students and teachers alike.  It can also be used when introducing art to students. Especially when they say they are not good at art, or they can't think of what to draw.  It can be used with any teaching to inspire students think out of the box and to take risks.

  1. Great idea to use the book as an intro into art. It really helps kids to have an area to focus. Anytime a picture book can be used to introduce or reinforce a concept it is more fun! I teach math and use books as often as possible. It is fun for the kids and the teacher.

  2. I am going to use this book to do some art with my class. I would have to say that art isn't my strong point. This would be a fun way to get kids to think creatively and encourage them to just do something. I try to build self-esteem in my class by helping kids know that they don't have to be the best at something to be able to do it. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love the book The Dot. I know a principal who gave this book to all of her teachers at the beginning of the year. She talked about inspiring students, and really reaching all kids. She also talked about being creative. It was really a motivator and inspiration to start the school year.
